Watch Salma Hayek’s politely savage takedown of the 2018 BAFTAs Best Actor category

From all-black ensembles on the red carpet to a woman (actress Joanna Lumley) taking over as host for the first time in 12 years, the spirit of the Time’s Up movement was alive at the 2018 BAFTA Awards. However, the moment that had us literally screaming YAS KWEEN was Salma Hayek’s politely savage takedown of the Best Actor category. Hayek’s stunt was learned at the Natalie “here are the all-male nominees” Portman School for Awards Show Clapbacks™, and it went something like this.
Hayek waltzed on stage to present the Best Actor award and introduced the category like this: “On this very important and historical moment for women, I am here on this legendary stage to celebrate…men.”
ZING. YAS. SLAY. DROPS MIC.
Oh, but it wasn’t over yet. She opened the envelope to announce the winner, and…
“…and the winner is…Frances McDormand!”
Yes, she trolled the hell out of that category, guys.
Hayek eventually announced the name of the actual winner (Gary Oldman), but the shade made its mark. Also, McDormand did go on to win her own award later that night and her speech kept with the theme of the movement. While she wore pink to the event, McDormand told the audience “I have a little trouble with compliance. But I want you to know I stand in full solidarity with my sisters tonight in black. I also want to say that I appreciate a well-organized act of civil disobedience.”

Look at Timothée Chalamet loving the McDormand joke.
Hayek: 1, Best Actor category: 0. Until we meet again at the 2018 Oscars.
