Sagittarius season is asking you to embody the dreamy energy of the archer
The year is almost over, and we’re officially in the realm of a new season: Sagittarius season. It’s in this season that we set our sights and visions ahead, much like the archer who represents the sign. Yes, 2017 is almost past us. Yes, we survived. And yes, we get to celebrate! But it’s important that we don’t get too caught up in the whirlwind of festivities, or else we’ll miss the magick that comes with this time of year. Sagittarius season is asking you to find your wildest dreams and shoot for them, all while we keep the new year ahead in mind. This season asks us to examine what we’ve been holding inside these past 11 months — how can we let go of that? How can aim at our wildest dreams and cravings, setting our sights for adventures ahead? This is the space we exist in during this sign’s reign; when we find a bigger target, and shoot with all our might, when we shoot like our dreams and goals depend on it.
With this in mind, we talked to astrologer Jessica Adams to get the inside scoop on all things archer and Sagittarius season.
Sagittarius is all about learning, travel, connection, knowledge, and adventure. Is there an area of your life that is lacking in some way? Sagittarius is also a fire sign, which means it’s highlighting everything that lights you up: your dreams, your visions, your ideas. But fire signs can burn out, which means taking time for self-care and self-inquiry is vital this season. Yes, there’s so much to see and do, but it won’t be worth it if you don’t show up as your fullest self, bow and arrow on your back, ready to be used when the moment strikes.
How to celebrate this Sagittarius season:
There are a number of ways to celebrate, Sagittarius style. Taking a trip, if possible, should be at the top of your list. You can even do this by being a tourist in your own city, or by having a staycation. Seeing things in a new way counts so long as you get out of your routine and expand your worldview just a little bit. Another way to work with this season is by learning something new! Take a class with your BFF or by yourself, visit a new museum, take a tour of a historic landmark, or buy a non-fiction book you’ve been eyeing.
"The ultimate Sagittarian entertainment is always about discovery, exploration, and travel, so you might start with Blue Planet (BBC) or just hit any National Geographic documentary," says Jessica. "Old favorites like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday also have that Sagittarian flavor."
Take cues from famous Sagittarians like Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen, and Britney Spears; all legendary, visionary artists who’ve used their unique gifts to make themselves successful. You can also channel the energy of the expansive archer by making some goals of your own. Make a ritual out of this, creating a welcoming environment that inspires you to cultivate your vision. Burn some incense, sit outside, make some tea or coffee, and play your favorite music. You can make goals for the month, for the next year, or even for the next five years. Split these up into steps that you can actually accomplish, and you’ll be feeling empowered, and ready for this season and beyond.

Looking back, if the past couple years have seemed like a lot, there’s a reason for that.
"It's time to say goodbye to two years of obstacles with travel, publishing, college, and foreign people and places. Why? Serious, slow, stuck Saturn has been in Sagittarius, which rules all these things, but he is moving out. It may take a while [to notice this]. Mercury Retrograde (delays) is also in Sagittarius. Give this time until you have final closure in January. It will happen slowly in stages," says Jessica.
The tarot card for Sagittarius is Temperance.
In the classic Raider-Waite tarot deck, Temperance is seen as an angel pouring water from one chalice into another, standing with one foot in a river and the other on the shore with the sun and hills shining behind them. Temperance tells us that balance is key, and that sometimes we need to slow down and find our footing before the next step. This card represents Sagittarius’s quest for enlightenment, and their goal to merge the philosophical and physical, connecting the ethereal to the IRL.
Temperance reminds us to find stillness between two extremes, and that our quest for connecting to something bigger than ourselves is noble, as long as we keep one foot in this world. Work with topaz, turquoise, and lapis lazuli this Sagittarius season.

It’s a powerful thought-amplifier that can help us get more clear with our intentions as we confront our truths.

Don’t forget to speak your truth.
This season is all about listening to your dreams and visions, and honoring them. Go where you need to go, even if it’s not close to home. But if you do find yourself pulling back the bow, or spreading your wings, make sure that you’re standing in your truth. Speaking from a place of honesty is vital during Sagittarius’s fiery reign. But thankfully, as long as you’re recognizing your deepest truth, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish.
