Ryan Gosling shuts down the “Hey Girl” meme and it’s so sad

Say it isn’t so, Ryan Gosling shuts down the “Hey Girl” meme and it hurts our hearts so much.

Gosling is one of Hollywood’s favorite men — just look at that face and you’ll understand why — and despite his movies being amazing, and his skills as a dancer, which we saw when he was a Mousekateer, being so on-point, it’s his Internet fame that has us continually swooning over him.

In particular, ladies everywhere are obsessed with the “Hey Girl” meme, which is just photos of Gosling looking dashing as usual, with words and phrases over them beginning with “Hey Girl,” and usually telling you that you can wear yoga pants everyday and Gosling would still love you, or “…I always use a bookmark, I would never dog-ear your pages, girl.” It’s a brilliant meme, but apparently Gosling never said those famous words and it sort of sucks.

"I've never said that," Gosling told Variety when asked about the viral meme fame he's come to be known for.

Never said it? Come on, we can’t imagine Gosling not saying “Hey Girl” and then winking at us as he secretly thinks about the fact that he wants to ask us out, but you know, he has children and is taken, but whatever.

Even his La La Land co-star Emma Stone was perplexed by how much Gosling’s likeness has taken over the Internet. “I don’t even understand,” Stone told Variety.

"I mean, you're great but, why have you become this — why? Do you at least get paychecks on your coloring book?" she asked. Sadly, Gosling does not get a cut from his coloring book, but yes he does have a hipster, glasses-wearing coloring book, so that's a positive.

Gosling opened up a little bit more about his feelings about his meme self and Internet fame, which also includes the 2013 Vine video called, “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal,” by comparing himself to Fabio. We know it’s random, but it does sort of make sense.

"Do you remember when Fabio got hit in the face with a pigeon on the roller coaster and it broke his nose? Sometimes I feel like I'm the pigeon and the internet is Fabio's face," Gosling explained. "Actually, I don't know if I'm the pigeon or I'm Fabio's face. Depends on the day, I guess."

Even if Gosling isn’t the biggest fan of his “Hey Girl” fame, we still love all the memes and we’ll never stop sharing them. It’s just our little way of feeling closer to The Nice Guy actor, who let’s face it is so freaking handsome. Ugh, we just love the Gos.
