Ryan Gosling’s new role has us on an emotional roller coaster

If there’s one thing that is true about Ryan Gosling, it’s that he does whatever roles he wants to using a criteria that is not that obvious to the average fangirl (or fanguy). Going from The Notebook to Drive to Crazy Stupid Love to The Ides of March proved that — talk about a series of roles that couldn’t be more different!

And now, he’s taking on a role in a sci-fi classic. Collider confirmed that Gosling is joining Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2, a much-rumored reboot of the 1982 (erm, that is two years after Gosling was born, FYI) movie.

In an interview, Gosling said what got him to sign on for this role was the participation of director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) and cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall, Revolutionary Road) but beyond that Gosling declined to comment, saying, “there’s a chip in me and if I say anything more I’ll explode if I say anything else.”

Okay then! So no hints on what the plot might be? If you haven’t seen the original Blade Runner, it’s based on a short story by legendary sci-fi writer Phillip K. Dick, set in a dystopian Los Angeles full of genetically engineered replicants who defied the ban blocking them from working on Earth and are eliminated (a.k.a. “retired”) by Blade Runners.

We’re betting on Gosling putting a human face on the replicant side of the argument.
