Holy smokes: Ryan Adams is covering T-Swift’s ENTIRE ‘1989’ album

Ryan Adams has been known to work a few cover songs in his day (say hello to this cry-worthy rendition of “Wonderwall“), but it seems the indie rocker has elevated his cover game to a whole ‘nother level.

Early early this morning, Adams announced that he’d be covering Taylor Swift’s entire 1989 album. That’s right. The whole. Darn. Thing. The best part? He’s supposedly recording it in the style of The Smiths, and has guaranteed fans the “saddest version of ‘Welcome to New York’ ever – or your tears back.” So far, it sounds like he’s keeping his promise. Here’s a clip of the cover Adams posted to his Twitter account early this morning:

Broody. Sullen. Gorgeous. We’re loving the sounds of Adams’ 1989 already.

From the looks of it, the musician has been gearing up for the album —he posted lyrics to “Style” on his Instagram. We can’t to see what he does with them!

Adams also posted this drawing of T-Swift and a cat (Meredith or Olivia, is that you?). Could this be his album cover?

We’re not the only ones excited about this music project. Taylor herself caught wind of his announcement on Twitter, asking “Is this true??????? I WILL PASS OUT.” Once Adams confirmed, she responded with complete elation. “Cool I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I’m going to celebrate today every year as a holiday. I’M CALM.”

As they say, imitation is the finest form of flattery. We’d be freakin’ out too!

There’s been no word on a release date for the album, so we’ll just have to stay tuned via Adams’ Instagram and Twitter.

We’ll be waiting…(kind of) patiently.
