Ryan Adams performed Bryan Adams’ ’80s classic — at long last

At one point in our lives, we have ALL sung along to Bryan Adams’ 1984 hit “Summer Of ’69.” It is a classic for a reason and no matter the time of  year we hear it, we instantly want to drive through the countryside with the radio blasting and all the windows down.

Enter the second part of this story: Bryan Adams (rock star from Canada) and RYAN Adams (singer songwriter from North Carolina) are not the same person. That said, their names sound really similar, we totally get it.

Well, over the years Ryan Adams has been mistaken for Bryan Adams. And legend has it that 12 years back during a performance, a fan repeatedly yelled at Ryan Adams to sing “Summer of ’69.” Wasn’t gonna happen. In fact, Ryan responded by kicking the fan out (don’t worry, the fan got a ticket refund) of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Seems a little extreme, sure, but Ryan has now made amends by doing an acoustic rendition of “Summer of ’69” at the very same venue all these years later. Love it. 

Two nights ago, Ryan surprised concert-goers at the Ryman with a stripped-down, acoustic version of our fave classic. An almost 13-year wait is pretty long, but it just made the moment even sweeter. Also, a soulful rendition, played all by his lonesome at the very same theater where he kicked someone out? The continuity is too beautiful for us to handle. Now the moment is going viral.

Ryan — who has become friends with Bryan Adams over the past decade — has clearly buried the hatchet with the Bryan-Adams-requesting fan and we actually LOVE his soulful cover.
