‘Supreme’ Ruth Bader Ginsburg tattoo is a feminist body art win

After penning a blistering, 35-page dissent in the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby’s right to deny contraception to employees as part of the company’s health insurance plan, 81-year-old Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg became a hero to a new generation of women. In effect, she also became an Internet sensation (in addition to, you know, being only the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court, a staunch proponent of reproductive rights, an operatic inspiration, and all-around feminist icon), when blogger and upcoming Ginsburg biographer Shana Knizhnik launched the Notorious R.B.G. Tumblr. Since then, Ginsburg merchandise, macros, and gifs have become commonplace both online and off.

Yesterday, tattoo artist Nikki Lugo took R.B.G. fandom to a new level when she posted a picture of an absolutely epic Ginsburg-inspired tattoo to her Instagram account.

Though it’s unknown who will now forever wear ‘Baby Ruth‘ quite literally on their sleeve for all eternity, Lugo’s design sets a new bar for Ginsburg enthusiasts to reach.

In so many ways, the tattoo is just so wonderfully, absolutely perfect. As the text reads, Justice Ginsburg truly is “supreme” in just about every sense of the word.

Last year, in an interview with NPR legal correspondent Nina Totenberg, Ginsburg was asked what she would consider to be “enough” women represented as judges in the Supreme Court.

“When there are nine,” she answered. “For most of the country’s history, there were nine and they were all men. Nobody thought that was straight.”

Supremely badass. May the tattoo’s lucky owner forever wear R.B.G. with pride.
