Ruth Bader Ginsburg will perform in an opera because anything is possible
What might Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg do if she wasn’t a judge? Why, she’d be an opera performer, of course! That’s right, the honorable Supreme Court Justice is appearing in an opera. She’ll exchange her robe for a petticoat as the Duchess of Krakenthorp in Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment for the Washington National Opera. She’ll take over the role for one night only at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
She won’t be singing, but she will be showing off her comedy chops.
“While the opera is best known for the vocal acrobatics required of its singers, the high-comedy antics of the non-singing role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp often steal the show, the Opera said in a statement reported by Time.
Some tongue-in-cheek references to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s day job will pepper the script.
Sounds like the notorious RBG is somewhat of an opera veteran! She was also an extra in Ariadne auf Naxos in 1994 and in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus in 2003. Ginsburg’s star power is already doing wonders for the National Opera’s sales.
“We definitely sold a lot of tickets today after our announcement, Washington National Opera spokesperson Michael Solomon told Reuters.
