Ruth Bader Ginsburg cringing in this new Supreme Court photo is all of us in a post-Kavanaugh world
It’s been a tough year in politics. Remember when Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court despite Dr. Christine Blasey Ford‘s sexual assault allegations and testimony against him? In some ways, it seems like that happened a million years ago, but in reality, many of us are still reeling from his confirmation. If you’re among those having a hard time coping with Kavanaugh’s lifetime appointment, don’t worry—you’re in very good company.
In a new photo of the Supreme Court, taken to officially include Kavanaugh, most of the judges are smiling, and Kavanaugh himself is straight-up grinning. But as far as Ruth Bader Ginsburg is concerned? Well, to put it lightly, she’s not having it.
In a photo that comedian Kathy Griffin shared on Twitter on Friday, RBG is side-eyeing the camera. Hard.
“New supreme court photo out and #RBG did not disappoint!” Griffin tweeted.

Griffin is right. Ginsburg’s expression is basically how a lot of us are feeling right now, knowing that Kavanaugh is sitting on the highest court in the land.
And if you think the face she’s making looks familiar, maybe it’s because, as this tweet pointed out, we’ve all seen it before on Chrissy Teigen: false
Realistically, any number of factors could have caused Ginsburg to make that face (her recently fractured ribs, for example). But would it really be that shocking if her grimace was aimed at Kavanaugh? This is, after all, how many of us looked while listening to him testify (and by testify, we mean have a full-blown misogynistic breakdown) earlier this year.
Long live RBG. We need her on this court now more than ever.
