Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint and Tom Felton said they’d return to the Wizarding World, but in this new way
Right now it feels inconceivable for Harry Potter to get the reboot treatment any time soon. However, should that day finally arrive, at least two of the original cast members could see themselves signing on…with a twist. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tom Felton and Rupert Grint revealed that if asked, they’d definitely answer the owl to play the fathers of Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley—aka characters they played as teens.
Earlier this week the pair joined former co-stars James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Evanna Lynch, and Warwick Davis at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to celebrate the opening of the Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure ride. And as often happens in one of these magical Harry Potter reunions, the cast is asked to revisit the decade they spent working on the beloved movie series.
With movie and television reboots seemingly happening every day, it was inevitable someone would ask their opinions on a true Harry Potter movie revival. Luckily, given they’ve aged out of playing schoolchildren, it appears Felton and Grint are completely on-board with taking on the roles of luscious-locked Death Eater Lucius Malfoy (originally played by Jason Isaacs) and the lovable, Muggle-obsessed Arthur Weasley (Mark Williams).
"Absolutely," Felton told EW. "I'd say I’ll do it for free but [laughs]…yeah, I’d love to.
Grint added, “I’d be up for that…it’d be a nice kind of bit of closure.”
While friends in real life, we’d love to see Grint and Felton reunite to play enemies once more, considering the tense animosity between Lucius and Arthur is not unlike Draco and Ron’s nasty feud as Hogwarts students.
Of the sprawling adult ensemble in Harry Potter, Lucius and Arthur are among a very small group of characters who are also parents of Hogwarts students—with Arthur parenting five students and two alums.
With Felton and Grint in to play them, now we just need to find new roles for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in this imagined reboot. Petition for an older Radcliffe to jump into Dumbledore’s role, anyone? Watson would make a great Minerva, because of course Hermione was destined for bigger and better things.
