Start stocking up on Reptar bars — Nickelodeon is reviving Rugrats for a new TV show and movie

The reboots Gods have struck again, and this time they’re bringing back one of the most beloved ’90s animated series. It’s time to dig out your old Cynthia doll and find that lost pack of Reptar Bars because Rugrats is officially getting a revival.

The series, which ran for nine seasons between 1991 and 2004, followed the exploits of 1-year-old Tommy Pickles and his toddler friends: nervous 2-year-old, Chuckie Finster; bug-eating 1-year-old twins Phil and Lil DeVille; three-year-old Susie Carmichael; and the most iconic toddler in existence, Tommy’s “adult” 3-year-old cousin Angelica Pickles. The success of the Emmy-winning series led to three feature films and a spinoff series, All Grown Up!, following the original baby gang as adolescents.

The Rugrats revival will include a rebooted animated series and a feature film.

According to Variety, Viacom has picked up the animated revival series for 26-episodes to air on Nickelodeon, with production already underway. Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, who created the original series, are returning to executive produce the reboot. Meanwhile a live-action Rugrats movie from Paramount Players has been slated for a November 13th, 2020 release. Both the TV series and movie — the latter of which featuring the characters in CGI form — will follow the beloved toddler gang as well as new characters.

The Rugrats revival projects are just the latest in a string of revivals for Nickelodeon’s ’90s line-up. Last fall, Nickelodeon brought Hey Arnold! back to life with a brand new TV movie, with additional TV movies from ’90s hits Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim set to air later this year.

Double Dare, the popular kid-friendly game show which ran on Nickelodeon from the late ’80s through the early ’90s, was revived earlier this year with Liza Koshy hosting and original host Marc Summers providing commentary.

We’re so here for Nickelodeon’s ’90s revivals and we’re definitely celebrating the return of Tommy, Chuckie, and the rest of the gang by chowing down all the Reptar Bars we can get our hands on.
