Here’s how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding guest list is avoiding all that Obama vs. Trump invite drama

There was much back and forth in the British tabloid community about the royal wedding guest list and whether or not Donald Trump or the Obamas would be invited. Many thought the former president would land on the coveted royal wedding guest list because Obama is friendly with Prince Harry, but if the Obamas were invited and not the actual U.S. President, then the whole royal wedding could be perceived as a diss to the current administration. Isn’t it funny how wedding guest list politics can become, well, actually political?
Everyone calm down, because neither the Obamas, the Trumps, nor any political leader for that matter, will attend Meghan and Prince Harry’s big day.
"It has been decided that an official list of political leaders – both U.K. and international – is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding. Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household, a Kensington Palace spokesperson told The New York Times.
Barack and Michelle Obama were not invited to William and Kate’s 2011 wedding either; however, a number of prime ministers, including then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, did attend. The current U.K. prime minister, Theresa May, will not get an invite to Markle and Harry’s wedding either.
The couple asked Lord Lieutenants to invite 1,200 people to join the celebrations, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.

The reasoning behind this is that Markle and Harry’s venue is smaller, but it also feels as if she and Harry want a more “normal” wedding celebration. Aside from the 1200 random common folk selected to attend the wedding, the Times adds that the rest of the guest list are all “people who have an existing direct relationship with the groom or the bride or with both.” So, #NoNewFriends basically.
The countdown to May 19th continues.
