Rotten Tomatoes just named this film the best of 2015
Tonight is a big night for movies. It’s the Golden Globes! This is the first major award show of the season and will set the tone for the rest of the shows to come. There will be winners. There will be losers. There will be upsets, and there will be confusingly long acceptance speeches. Bring on the GIF-able moments.
But before we find out tonight’s winners, let’s check out the results of another award show: The Rotten Tomatoes 17th Annual Golden Tomato Awards. The Golden Tomatoes honor and celebrate the best-reviewed movies and TV shows of the past year. So if you reviewed a movie on Rotten Tomatoes last year, you helped decide these winners!
Here’s a breakdown of how winners were picked: The site ranked movies and TV shows based on their Tomatometer scores. Winning movies must have been released in theaters in 2015 and have at least 40 reviews. Competition was stiff, but we do have a winner.
The Best-Reviewed Movie (wide release) of 2015 is… Mad Max: Fury Road!
“With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller’s post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life,” the site’s Critic Consensus reads.
Inside Out was close behind in second place, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens took third place. Rounding out the top 5 were Brooklyn and Shaun the Sheep.
Tonight, Mad Max: Fury Road is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director. Whether or not it takes home any statues, it’s the best movies of the year in Rotten Tomatoes’ book!
