The flawless Rose Byrne launches an all-female production company

As if we couldn’t adore Rose Byrne any more, the Australian-born actress — along with four of her friends, writer/actress Krey Boylan, director Gracie Otto, producer Jessica Carrera and director Shannon Murphy — has announced the launch of a new production company.

The coolest part? It’s entirely run by women. Called The Dollhouse Collective, the aim of the company is to promote women’s influence in the film industry. “The core aim is to develop theatre, film and television together and tell stories with a strong female presence,” Gracie Otto said in an interview with ScreenDaily.

At present, the movie industry is definitely still overwhelmingly male-dominated — five men are employed to every one woman. Projects like The Dollhouse Collective are turning the tide to make a change in a big way, and will definitely allow women to impact Hollywood with the stories they want to tell.

There are already three projects in development through The Dollhouse, and hopefully they’ll be the first of many.

Rose Byrne joins fellow thespian Meryl Streep when it comes to changing Hollywood’s gender bias for the better. As for Meryl, this week New York Women in Film and Television announced that they are launching a Meryl-funded lab for female screenwriters over the age of 40.

Meanwhile, The Dollhouse Collective will be among the ranks of other lady-founded production companies such as Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard and Lena Dunham’s A Fine Romance.
