Rongrong Devoe is our Illustrator of the Week!
Rongrong Devoe’s art is all kinds of beautiful — and we aren’t the only ones that think so. The Qingdao, China-native’s clients include Giorgio Armani and Viktor & Rolf, and her work has been featured in both Vogue and InStyle. She’s kind of a big deal, and it’s easy to see why. After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, Rongrong moved to Houston to work as a full-time fashion illustrator — and we seriously can’t get enough of her gorgeous and colorful illustrations. She even accompanied us on the Houston stop of the A Tale of Two Besties book tour, and, spoiler alert: She’s even more impressive live. Rongrong’s art is bright, bold, and totally chic — and that’s why she’s our Illustrator of the Week!
Find out more about Rongrong and her art below.
No pressure, but describe your art: My art is mainly fashion-focused. A lot of beautiful people, shoes, makeup, and sometimes I love to draw desserts — such as cupcakes, donuts, macaroons. The style of my art is fun, playful, and bright.
What inspires you to make things: My inspiration comes from nature, fun places, and a lot of fashion magazines.
Your favorite thing(s) to draw: Definitely people. People that are stylish are so much fun to draw!! Many fashion bloggers and models are on my drawing list.
Medium of choice: I use pencil and watercolor a lot. Sometimes when I do live sketch, I use markers.
The first time you knew you wanted to be an artist: I learned how to draw when I was very young, but I didn’t think I could live as an artist until I moved to NYC 2009. I set a goal to become a fashion artist.
Proudest achievement so far: I just finished my first fashion illustration book for teen girls called Fashion Portfolio, which will be published by Scholastic early next year.
Music you listen to while you work: Jessie J, Maroon 5, etc. I am a big fan of upbeat music.
Your most prized possession: My daily planner. I love to make to-do lists and write down ideas in my planner.
Your personal hero: My dad. He is a business owner and a furniture designer. His creativity and work ethic always inspired me to chase my dream.
The last thing to make you giggle: A funny video from Bull Dog Stuff, an Instagram account I follow since I am obsessed with bulldogs.
Current project(s): I am working on a few new fashion illustrations to add to my Etsy shop.
