Could this “Rogue One” character appear in another “Star Wars” spin-off movie?
It’s safe to say that we were HUGE fans of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but we’ve been wondering whether we’ll ever get to see that characters from that film again. Well, according to this new fan theory, it could be possible.
While we know that Rogue One isn’t getting a sequel, we were so happy that the film was a HUGE box office success. We were totally taken with the story of Jyn Erso stealing the plans for the Death Star, and have actually really loved seeing how the final film differed from what was initially teased in the trailers.
However, those who have seen the film might be wondering how it *might* be possible that we’d see the characters again.
BEWARE…SPOILERS FOR ROGUE ONE AHEAD.
Well, British newspaper The Independent has uncovered a fan thoery and done some investigation into how it could be possible that we’d see Donnie Yen’s Rogue One character, Chirrut Imwe, in another Star Wars film.
The whole thing stems from Yen’s own words after an interview with Screen Rant, in which the actor was said that he wasn’t allowed to discuss his character’s backstory, in particular his belief in The Force.
"That's a backstory actually," he said. "We did a lot of back and forth discussions and research between actors, producers, and directors so that is something…it’s probably [motions a large book] this thick of materials and research, but I'm not allowed to talk about it."
In Rogue One, we’re introduced to the Guardians of the Whills, a religious group of devout followers of The Force, of which Yen’s character Chirrut Imwe is a member. This group, The Independent say, was something that George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, wanted to include in the original trilogy of movies. In fact, the Guardians are mentioned in the Rogue One visual guide, and are said to be extinct by the time we meet Finn and Rey in The Force Awakens
Well, Movie Pilot has suggested that all of this signals to the fact that we’re going to see more of the Guardians of Whills, and that any reference of them is likely to include Chirrut Imwe.
In fact, they argue that Imwe could appear in the upcoming Han Solo origins story. Their reasoning is that in the original Star Wars film, Han isn’t a believer in The Force, something they propose is a result of the infamous space smuggler encountering the Guardians of Whills and being none too impressed with their teachings.
They also link this to Rogue One character Baze Malbus (played by Jiang Wen) and his apparent loss of faith in the movie, arguing that Han’s skepticism may have rubbed off on Baze.
Of course, we’re not 100% going to know until we see the Han Solo movie, which is rumored to be released in 2018. However, we do know that we’d love to get even more a backstory into the character’s we met in Rogue One, and we’re totally intrigued into the origins of the mystical Guardians of Whills.
