Rod Stewart is reuniting with The Faces and we are so stoked

Before becoming the solo music hero we’ve come to know and love, Rod Stewart first tasted fame with ’70s rock band, The Faces. Rod, who calls his experience with The Faces a “whirlwind of madness” and “beyond brilliant,” saw ’70s hits like “Ooh La La” and “Stay With Me” alongside bandmates Ronnie Wood (of the Rolling Stones, hello) , Kenney Jones, Ronnie Lane, and Ian McLagan.

Today, Rod Stewart announced on his website that he’ll be reuniting with former bandmates, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones, at the Prostate Cancer UK benefit concert on September 5. This comes 40 years after the band announced its breakup in 1975. Since then, the band has sadly lost two of its founding members, Ian McLagan and Ronnie Lane. Though Kenney Jones has vowed to “raise a glass to them” during their performance.

Here’s the thing about The Faces:  they weren’t nearly as successful as other bands in the same scene (ie: The Who and The Rolling Stones), but they’re constantly credited with influencing heaps of musicians that came after them. Everyone from the Sex Pistols to The Black Crowes have acknowledged the influence The Faces had on their sound. Yeah, they’re pretty iconic.

Good news is, all three gentlemen seem to be just as thrilled about the reunion as we are. “Getting back on stage with the lads playing ‘Stay with Me’ and other favourites will be a blast and will make this a very special night,” Ronnie Wood said in a statement. “Being in The Faces was a mad and brilliant time for all of us and although we don’t have Ronnie and Mac with us anymore this is our chance to remember them and say ‘Had Me a Real Good Time’”.

September 5 will mark the third benefit concert The Faces have played for Prostate Cancer UK. The concert will take place at Hurtwood Park Polo Club in Ewhurst, Surrey. You can buy tix to the event here.
