‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ cast had an awesome reunion
Just in time for Halloween, and the film’s 40th birthday, the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show gathered together for one pretty awesome reunion. They assembled for Entertainment Weekly’s annual Reunion Issue, and also sat down with the Today Show to talk about all things “Time Warp.” So sorry in advance, “Time Warp” is now going to be stuck in your head for at least 48 hours.
The group included Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, who played couple Janet and Brad (and this is the Janet of the famous, “Dammit, Janet” fame); Tim Curry, who played fishnet wearing Dr. Frank-N-Furter; Meat Loaf, playing ex-delivery boy and brain donor Eddie; and lastly Patricia Quinn as Frank’s sister and the castle’s maid, Magenta.
During the reunion, Sarandon admits that she’s had to do the Time Warp again (and again) throughout the years, and while shooting the film she got pneumonia. But it was all worth it, seeing as how The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest running theatrical release in movie history. It’s not even like any movie could catch up with it anytime soon, either. It’s been running since its release in 1975. 40 years later, you can still find it in theaters, especially around Halloween time.
And if you’ve yet to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, do yourself a favor and find a midnight screening of it. However know that you will then get a red V painted on your forehead for never having seen it before (or at least that’s what happened to me when I admitted to being a Rocky Horror virgin).
But all this just boasts the staying power and true “cult classic” status of the movie. Four decades later, the film is still going strong. During the reunion interview, Curry praises the final message of the film — “don’t dream it, be it” — as “really good slogan.” We’ve got to agree.
You can check out the cast’s interview on Today below, and EW‘s Reunion Issue hits stands Friday.
