Robyn and The xx teamed up for an amazing cover
A long time ago, I was going through a bad breakup and feeling every feeling. Part of my (and many other people’s) post-breakup regime was listening to really sad songs on loop. One of them was by the producer Kleerup and Swedish pop sensation Robyn: “With Every Heartbeat.” It remains to this day one of my favorite songs.

You know who else makes really poignant electronic music? British band The xx, whose songs aren’t always sad but still somehow sound sad. And somehow, the stars aligned to bring us an absolute musical gift.
Robyn and The xx teamed up for a special performance of “With Every Heartbeat,” and it’s absolute perfection.
As part of their new album I See You‘s touring cycle, The xx is doing some special performances. Dubbed “Night + Day,” these shows have special guests every night. (Other guests include Kelela, Sampha, and Cat Power.)
So while it makes sense that Robyn would inevitably perform a song with them, “With Every Heartbeat” isn’t the obvious choice. Songs like “Dancing On My Own” and “Hang With Me” are more popular cuts. That said, I’m personally very glad that this cover version now exists somewhere in the world.
