We can’t stop watching this robot solve a Rubik’s cube in only one second

Seriously, technology rules. Mostly because it’s able to solve those seemingly unsolvable problems. Probably the most iconic brainteaser of all is the Rubik’s cube which, while sometimes being solved by extremely talented teenagers, usually leaves me a frustrated mess. However, it ain’t no thang if you’re a robot, especially this robot, who just solved a Rubik’s cube in a little over one second.

This machine was created by software engineers Jay Flatland and Paul Rose, who are looking to set a world record. While the previous machine-powered time to beat is 3.253 seconds, the duo’s robot has repeatedly solved the Rubik’s cube in only 1.2. Crazy.

Flatland and Rose achieved this using an algorithm called the Kociemba algorithm, and by drilling holes into each cube which allow the robot to quickly and effectively manipulate the tiles. What results is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it feat that’s sure to go down in the history books as step one in the eventual robot world-takeover. Just kidding. Maybe.
