Robin Wright opened up about Kevin Spacey and the #MeToo movement
In a July 9th interview with NBC’s Today, House of Cards star Robin Wright opened up about former co-star Kevin Spacey and the #MeToo movement. In October 2017, actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual misconduct the occurred when Rapp was still a minor. This led others to come forward with similar experiences involving Spacey, and in November 2017, Netflix severed ties with the actor (charges have also been filed against Spacey in London). The sixth and final season of House of Cards was rewritten to exclude his character.
“This is a bigger, broader issue, I think, which is seduction,” Wright said regarding the #MeToo movement during her interview with Today‘s Savannah Guthrie. “I don’t care who you are. It’s about power, and once you overpower someone, that person then becomes vulnerable.”
Wright also noted that the #MeToo movement gave the public a new way to discuss systemic sexual harassment. “We just need to shift the paradigm,” Wright continued. When Guthrie asked Wright if she had any inkling of Spacey’s problematic past, the actress said she didn’t actually know Spacey very well, despite working with him on House of Cards for five years.
"We were co-workers, really," Wright explained. "We never socialized outside of work [...] Kevin and I knew each other between 'action' and 'cut,' and in between setups where we would giggle. I didn't know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is."
Wright also said that she hasn’t had any contact with Spacey since House of Cards parted ways with the actor.

During the show’s final season, her character Claire Underwood will take on the presidency alone and unaided by Spacey’s Frank Underwood. House of Cards Season 6 will premiere this fall, and Wright not only stars as the commander-in-chief, but she directed the series finale.
