Watch Robin Williams and Ben Stiller help out with the most adorbs prom-posal
Robin Williams, we miss you so much. The late comedian, who died on August 11, lent some of his star power and marvelous humor to a young co-worker earlier this year, while filming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
Skyler Gisondo, who plays the son of Ben Stiller’s character in the new movie, was shooting the film as a senior in high school. While he was away from home, he was sorting out a way to ask a date to prom, and asked his co-stars Robin Williams and Ben Stiller to help him out. They not only agreed to help, both stars were enthusiastic about helping Gisondo get a date.
“All morning, Robin was pitching more ideas,” Gisondo told The Hollywood Reporter. “He was saying ‘Can I say this? Would it be appropriate to say this?’ You’re Robin Williams. You can say whatever you want!”
“It turned into this three-minute, ridiculous thing. A prom-posal. I realized that was the most awesome three minutes of my life and I’ve accepted it will go downhill from there,” Gisondo continued.
In the adorable video, Stiller and Williams advertise Gisondo’s kissing skills and call upon phantom Cirque du Soleil performers and dancing girls. (It also features a monkey and a rose.) The video, by the way, totally worked: Gisondo landed that prom date.
This all went down about six months ago, but the feelings it brings on are totally timeless. We just wanted to remember one of those subtle, endlessly kind things that Robin Williams always seemed to be doing.
“Robin was this bottomless reservoir of kindness and hilarity,” Gisondo said. “It was just so special to work so closely with this guy whose movies I’ve grown up with and watch his preparedness and his kindness.”
