The trailer for HBO’s Robin Williams documentary is here, and it is guaranteed to make you cry
If you think you’re going to make it through the day without crying, think again, because HBO has just released the heartbreaking first trailer for its new Robin Williams documentary.
Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, which premieres later this summer, is an in-depth look at the life and legendary career of the often-enigmatic performer. The documentary — which, according to Deadline, is largely told through the lens of Williams himself through never-before-seen archival footage and interviews — also features interviews with the late Dead Poets Society actor’s friends and contemporaries, including Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Eric Idle, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Pam Dawber, and Robin’s son, Zak Williams.
The trailer touches upon many facets of his life, from the actor’s childhood, early success as a comedian, and his impact on his friends and family as well as millions of fans all over the world. The documentary also delves into the paradox in Williams’ life: making millions of people laugh while grappling with many demons off-stage. The trailer features references to the late comedian’s drug use, his fear of abandonment, and loneliness.
"My father didn't always feel he was succeeding," Zak Williams says in the trailer. "But he's the most successful person that I know."

“I don’t tell jokes. I just use characters as a vehicle for me,” Williams says in the trailer. Since his death by suicide in 2014, the actor’s legacy as one of the sharpest comedic minds in history as endured, with friends and co-stars continuing to speak on the impact the late actor had on them.
The HBO documentary is just the latest examination of the Williams’ life. Earlier this year, Robin, a biography written by New York Times culture writer Dave Itzkoff was released.
Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind will premiere on July 16th on HBO. And if you anyone you know are contemplating suicide, you can reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, day or night, at 1-800-273-8255.
