Robert Pattinson Has Reportedly Tested Positive for COVID-19
Production of ‘The Batman’ has halted as a result.
After news broke that production on the highly anticipated movie The Batman stopped because someone tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), Vanity Fair reports that the person in question is the star: Robert Pattinson. Pattison is playing the titular Batman role in the upcoming film. Production had just resumed after initially shutting down in March due to the pandemic, and now, of course, production is on pause again so that Pattinson can recover and for the safety of everyone on set.
Warner Bros. issued a statement to Vanity Fair stating that an unidentified member of The Batman crew had tested positive for the virus, “and is isolating in accordance with established protocols.”
However, the outlet confirmed “through a highly placed source” that Pattinson is the crew member in question.
There has been no word yet from Pattinson’s camp confirming the actor’s diagnosis.
The upcoming installment of the Batman franchise—inarguably the most emo installment to date—portrays the Dark Knight in his second year of Dark Knighthood as he attempts to solve a wave of serial killings. Along the way, he encounters some of the most infamous Batman villains in the canon, including The Riddler (Paul Dano); Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz); and Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin (Colin Farrell). The film also stars Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis as Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler.
According to director Matt Reeves, who spoke about the film in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.” (Read: Emo.) It’s slated for release sometime in 2021, though the exact date is liable to change now.
This is yet another reminder that COVID-19 is still raging its way across the globe, and not even masked vigilantes are immune to it. (Which means you’re not, either. So wear your mask!) In the meantime, we sincerely hope that Pattinson makes a quick, full recovery.
