Robert Lopez is the very first person to double EGOT, and what have we done lately?
Last night, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez nabbed their second Academy Award for Best Original Song for Coco’s “Remember Me.” But the win also signified a major awards milestone for Lopez. Like, a HUGE milestone.
The composer has officially become the first person in history to earn a double EGOT. A DOUBLE EGOT, PEOPLE!
To have an EGOT — an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony — is a pretty big feat in and of itself, as only 12 people have ever achieved it, including Audrey Hepburn, Scott Rudin, Mel Brooks, and Whoopi Goldberg.
With this win, Robert Lopez has now pulled the feat off twice — and, oh yeah, he’s already halfway to a third EGOT.
The composer won his two Daytime Emmys for his work on Nickelodeon children’s animated series Wonder Pets. He also has three Tonys: one for Best Book of a Musical for The Book Of Mormon — which he wrote with South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone — and two awards for Best Original Score, for Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon. His three Grammys are forBest Musical Theater Album for The Book of Mormon, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for Frozen, and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Let It Go” from Frozen.

In 2014, “Let It Go” scored Lopez and Anderson-Lopez their first Oscar for Best Original Song.
That not only earned Lopez his first EGOT, but made him the youngest to do so at 39. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lopez also holds the record for earning the fastest EGOT, nabbing all four major awards in just 10 years. That also means it only took him fourteen years to double EGOT. As of now, the composer only needs another Emmy and another Oscar to secure this third EGOT — and that’s totally doable.
Lopez and Anderson-Lopez are currently working on the music for Frozen 2, which hits theaters in 2019, and the upcoming stage musical for Frozen, set to open on Broadway later this year. Like we said, totally doable.
