Rob Kardashian opens up about his struggles with weight and body image, and he’s literally all of us
So (and we mean SO) many of us struggle with the unrealistic standards of beauty shoved down our throats in a million different ways every single day (movies, television, magazines — often times even by our own friends and families who have bought into punishing and unattainable ideals).
Which is why we completely and utterly saw ourselves in Rob Kardashian on a recently-released clip of Rob and Chyna. SERIOUSLY.
The scene, featured on People, features Rob (with Scott Disick on hand to help) working with a stylist to try to find an outfit for Cannes. After trying several pieces on and not finding anything, Rob looks visibly frustrated.
"I do not want to go to Cannes anyway," he told the camera later. "Even when I was in the best shape of my entire life, I still had an insecurity with my weight. On top of that, there's paparazzi people following me and getting pictures of me, which shuts me down (and makes me) not want to go out when I'm obviously not feeling my best."
He went on to say,
"I'm not comfortable in my skin. I'm not comfortable with this weight. So I feel like I'm not happy with anything I do right now."
He went on to apologize to the exasperated stylist. “It’s not you. I just won’t be happy period. That’s just how I am.”
We genuinely feel like Rob could be ANY of us trying on clothes right now, and we hope he knows he’s not alone in feeling this sometimes. What’s more, this is a super important reminder that anyone can be affected by our culture’s punishing physical ideals — men just as much as women.
We’re sending all our good vibes to Rob today. We think he looks AWESOME.
