Luke Perry gave his “Riverdale” son KJ Apa the best advice for dealing with online trolls
Advice for dealing with the down side of social media is aplenty, but given the amount of time we spend online, we could always use a bit more help. The latest tip comes from Riverdale‘s KJ Apa, who shared what Luke Perry told him about how to cope with being bullied and trolled online.
ICYDK, Apa and Perry — who play father and son on hit The CW series — share a super close bond IRL. So naturally, when Apa received super negative comments online, he turned to the man who portrays his onscreen dad for some veteran perspective.
Dealing with online trolls can leave you feeling super vulnerable, but fortunately Perry’s words of advice for his 20-year-old co-star were extremely supportive and spot on.
"He said, 'Y'know, this kind of thing happens all the time, it's nothing to do with you,'" Apa told Teen Vogue of his chat with Perry. "But I went to him and I spoke to him and he helped me. He's the biggest legend, and obviously he went through the whole thing on a way bigger scale than even Riverdale, you know Beverly Hills 90210 was massive, so I think he is the best guy to talk to, and I'm really close with him."
Aw, we seriously can’t get enough of these two. The main takeaway from this is that the behavior has less to do with us and more to do with the person doing the harassing. Hopefully, Perry’s words bring solace to anyone who is being bullied — online or in IRL — and reminds us all that it is almost never actually about us or our self worth!
