OMG, a “Riverdale” musical episode might be in the works

The producers and creative team behind The CW’s Riverdale hit WonderCon in Anaheim this weekend. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Executive-Producer Sarah Schechter and Archie Comics’ CEO Jon Goldwater all sat down to talk musical and Halloween episodes, the influence of Twin Peaks, and who in the world killed Jason Blossom?!

From Buffy the Vampire Slayer to How I Met Your Mother to Daria — it’s all-the-rage to have a musical episode of your TV show. Especially after the recent crossover episode of The Flash and Supergirl pulled it off. So what about in Riverdale?! The creative team seems totally game. After all, they have a bunch of talented actors. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa talked about the possibility at WonderCon:

"Everyone's a great singer on the show. Lili [Reinhart, who plays Betty], can sing. Cami [Mendes, who plays Veronica] can sing. Obviously The Pussycats and Archie. Maybe the only kid who can't sing is Cole."

Wow, you just got called out Cole Sprouse. But guys, don’t worry, it was agreed that Jughead could narrate the musical episode — no problem!

Speaking of Buffy, remember those great Halloween episodes? Well, Riverdale could be getting their very own Halloween episode in Season 2. Because we all want to see Riverdale on Halloween. That fog. The costumes! After all, how much creepier can we make Riverdale?!

Speaking of spooky, just how did Riverdale get so creepy? It’s been compared to another mysterious small town called Twin Peaks and hey, turns out Sarah Schechter is a huge fan of the show and it had a big influence on Riverdale from the beginning. How? Sarah explains:

"It's that combination of the innocent and the macabre which I think is in Roberto's writing."

And Twin Peaks opens with the murder of the high school homecoming queen. Sound familiar? Totally an influence on Riverdale. That brings up the real question of the show: Who killed Jason Blossom?! Of course, they wouldn’t say but they would say that the answer has changed a few different times throughout the writing of the show — only adding to the mystery and intrigue tbh.

So what will happen in Season 2?! It sounds like the best of Riverdale is still to come! Take a visit to the mysterious town of Riverdale every Thursday on The CW.
