KJ Apa was involved in a car crash after leaving the “Riverdale” set, and the details are terrifying

Update (12:50 p.m.): Production has not been delayed on Riverdale, despite KJ Apa’s car accident, according to Deadline.

Unfortunately, we have some terrible news: Riverdale’s KJ Apa was involved in a car crash. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the accident took place when Apa was returning home after working a 16-hour day near Vancouver, Canada.

Apa — who plays Archie Andrews — reportedly fell asleep when making the 45-minute drive back to his place after midnight.

Thankfully he’s okay, but these details are terrifying.

"He was taken to a local hospital for observation and later discharged without serious injuries," the outlet writes of Apa's condition. "His car, however, didn’t fare as well. The passenger side was apparently destroyed after striking a light pole, and the vehicle was rendered inoperable."

We’re so glad to hear that Apa is safe, but the accident does raise concerns about the show’s safety conditions. Accordingly, the cast and crew are apparently now demanding better protections.

For instance, the production doesn’t offer the cast and crew rides to and from set, despite the fact that shoots frequently go until early in the morning.

So Cole Sprouse — who plays Jughead Jones on the show, and was apparently planning on riding home with Apa the night of the accident — has reportedly requested that transportation be provided to cast members shooting late into the night.

This news is all the more troubling because it arrives shortly after the deaths of stuntman John Bernecker (while working on The Walking Dead) and stuntwoman SJ Harris (while in production for Deadpool 2).

We’re so sorry about all of these accidents, but hope that they help lead to better safety conditions on productions — Riverdale, of course, included.
