In “Riverdale,” female friendships are basically all #SquadGoals

Over the weekend, the cast of The CW’s latest hit teen show Riverdale visited WonderCon to be adorable and remind us all that we should be watching Riverdale. HelloGiggles sat down to chat with Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge) and Ashleigh Murray (Josie McCoy) to talk about the role of female friendships on the show and pretty much how they’re all #SquadGoals.
When we first brought up how cool the female friendships on Riverdale are, Camila had one thing to say:
"It's inspiring."
In a show that could turn into an actual pussycat fight pretty easily, it’s refreshing to see a group of teen girls who have each other’s backs. Ashleigh (Josie herself!) agrees:
"Being a teenager is hard enough. You know, discovering who you're attracted to and how that makes you feel. And then dealing with the dynamic of, oh what if your friends are attracted to the same person — how you deal with that. I like the fact that we do make a conscious effort to keep the relationships between girls strong."
And you probably remember the episode that spawned the #JusticeForEthel campaign when Stranger Things‘ Shannon Purser was a guest on the show, yeah?. The episode centered on the girls getting revenge for one another. And according to Camila, that episode was a pretty special one for them:
"We got a lot of positive feedback. That was the better part of releasing that episode. It wasn't really the fact that we shot it, it was how positive the reaction was to that [episode]. So it just kind of shows you that everyone is on the same page and we all kind of want the same thing."
The girls of Riverdale are kinda the coolest and we love that they watch out for each other! Join the Riverdale #squad Thursdays on The CW.
