We’ve got the scoop on “Riverdale’s” hottest couple: Bughead

When we sat down with Riverdale‘s Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones) and Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper) at WonderCon, the question of the day was which ship name was best. Is it Bughead or Jetty?! Lili and Cole jokingly agree that Bughead is “on the rise” and totally “endearing.” But seriously, what’s the deal with the relationships on Riverdale?

Early on, Riverdale seemed primed to have a relationship triangle between Betty, Veronica, and Archie. But that never really materialized and Archie is now dating Val of The Pussycats. The relationship that currently has the internet exploding is Bughead, aka the unlikely union of good girl Betty and emo kid Jughead.

So what exactly is going on there? Cole jokes that the relationship is “super erotic” and that “the underpinning of the whole thing is grounded in an intense sexual attraction”. LOLOLOL. Luckily, Lili is able to seriously answer the question for us:

"I think they're both romantics and being put in the situation where they're solving murder kinda brings you close to someone. And I think they have a deep appreciation for each other."

But seriously, Cole. What’s the deal with Bughead?

 "I think they both have this love of this kind of purified state of Riverdale that drive them to seek and discover what happened--this sort of critical event that made it something dark and ominous. And I think that kind of romanticism lives in both of them and their shared investigation's sort of the right petri dish for that festering bacteria to bloom." 

Ewww, gross. But I think we understand what you’re getting at.

And how exactly does Archie feel about this? After all, Betty was crushing on him early on in the season. KJ Apa, who plays Archie, has an idea:

 "I just think it's one of those things where you want what you can't have. And when he sees Betty with Jughead he just wants it again pretty much and I think he's a little bit envious of it. The history between Archie and Betty goes back a long way."

Archie is with Val now, but will it last? KJ cryptically confirms that he does see Archie settling into a more long term relationship. Who knows who that’ll be with though?! And by episode 10, Cole says Bughead will run into some rough patches. Oh no!! We just want everyone to be happy.
