An “alternate reality” episode of Riverdale is coming, and here’s what that means

Are you ready for some exciting Riverdale news? No, we don’t have all the answers to questions you might have about that shocking midseason finale, but showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa did reveal that an upcoming episode will take place in an alternate universe. That means that everything you know about Riverdale will be completely different…starting with the four main characters. The episode, titled “Bizarrodale,” will apparently focus on some of our favorite secondary characters.

"Instead of Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead being the Core Four, it treats Kevin, Cheryl, Reggie, and Josie as the Core Four, Aguirre-Sacasa told The Wrap. “And it’s a really fun episode. A really fun episode. I’m really excited about that one."

We’re down for anything that gives Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom more screen time.

But, wait—that’s not all! He also revealed Season 3 will feature a noir-themed episode. Aguirre-Sacasa told the website that the show’s got “an episode coming up that is completely noir: How it’s written, how it’s shot, the plot of it. And it’s really fun.”

The show runner also teased rumors about a possible Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover in the future. Though Aguirre-Sacasa didn’t exactly confirm the crossover yet, he did say that conversations are being had, and that it is, in fact, something that could happen.

"There’s one thing I’m trying to figure out that’s a nice Easter egg that I’m trying to get permission to do—but it’s too soon to talk about yet, he said. "I think right now our focus is all on wrapping up [CAOS] and getting that landed in a great way. I think once that’s behind us, I think we’ll be able to really investigate and have the conversations about this. That’s my hope at least."

Um, can 2019 get here any sooner?
