Rihanna really, *really* wants to win an Oscar, and, like, same
Now that she’s officially an actor, too, Rihanna has her heart set on winning an Oscar, and this is a campaign we can get behind.
RiRi, of course, has been acting for a while. The singer appeared in the blockbuster Battleship movie, and also voiced a character in the animated movie Home. The star is now set to appear in the upcoming all-female Oceans 8, which also stars Sarah Paulson, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Mindy Kaling.
If that wasn’t enough, a tweet that went viral about a buddy movie starring Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna is actually happening, with Netflix on board.
Rihanna is now officially an actor, and she has set her sights on the golden prize: an Oscar.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, the Bajan singer, who is also slated to appear in the Cara Delevingne-starring sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, admitted that she would love to achieve the prestigious award.
“I’d love to get there one day. Who doesn’t want to be told they are doing a great job?” she explained.
Continuing, the 29 year old said that she always puts her all into everything she does, and it would be fantastic for that to be recognized.
"Any validation that your work is impacting is rewarding. I work hard and put my all into everything I do but the rest isn’t up to me," she said. "I don’t think anyone makes an album thinking about winning a Grammy, or makes a movie thinking about winning an Oscar. What you do is work as hard as you can and if awards follow, then that’s great."

Rihanna, who was recently awarded Harvard’s Humanitarian of the Year award, also shared how she struggled with method acting, especially given that her character in Valerian and the city of a Thousand Planets is a shapeshifting entertainer. Which, to be fair, doesn’t sound easy.
“It’s pretty difficult to method act when it comes to playing a shape-shifting entertainer but, seriously, I have nothing but respect for the actors that do,” she said. “If you look at the well-known method actors of the generation, they put in incredible performance after incredible performance. It’s no coincidence.”
Ultimately, however, Rihanna wants to look for a role that’ll challenge her, something “dark and different.” Given that in just 12 years Rihanna has become one of the best-selling artists of our time, we’re pretty sure that if she puts her mind and talent to something, she’ll conquer it.
