Rihanna has paid tribute to and cancelled a concert in Nice following the tragic terrorist attack in the French city on Thursday night (14 July).

Last night during a celebration for Bastille Day, France’s national holiday commemorating the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a truck ran down a crowd of people leaving 84 dead and many more injured. The driver was later shot by police after, with France’s president, Francois Hollande, declaring the incident had “an undeniable terrorist nature.”

Rihanna, who was due to play the city’s Allianz Stadium as part of her “Anti World Tour” today, was in the city during the atrocities, but has told People that she is “safe.” Taking to Instagram, the singer paid tribute to those who lost their lives.

“Due to the tragic events in #Nice, my concert scheduled for tomorrow July 15 at Allianz Stadium will not be going ahead as planned,” she wrote alongside a picture of the French flag in a heart. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families ?”

Rihanna isn’t the only celebrity to pay tribute to Nice. On twitter, Amy Schumer tweeted, “Enough #PrayForNice,” while Lady Gaga tweeted, “I am praying for you France. When u open your eyes and see chaos, we will close our eyes and see harmony. We are with you.” false false

At the time of writing, no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement by President Obama released by the White House, he said, “I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France, which killed and wounded dozens of innocent civilians. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded.”
