Rihanna got us right in the feels when she started crying onstage last night

When stars perform for us, it’s like they’re putting a part of their soul on stage. It’s a vulnerable position, and Rihanna made that clear last night during a performance in Dublin when she started crying during “Love The Way You Lie.” Our hearts broke when we watched her step up the mic and struggle to get out the words, but we admire her even more for being so open with her fans about her emotions.

Even though Rihanna had trouble singing the songs, the audience totally supported her, singing along to the parts she couldn’t quite get out, and giving all their love when it was clear she needed it.

While we don’t know why the singer was upset, she did address the incident in an Instagram post after the show. “What a night!!!! Such an emotional show for me!” she wrote. “I feel so lucky to have a team like the #Navy man! I’m blessed!! No matter what I’m on you always snatch me out of it! I’m so grateful to have y’all!”

We feel grateful to have a singer who isn’t just talented, but also genuine. Rihanna continues her Ireland and U.K. tour in the next week before moving on to Europe. We hope she feels better soon, but also that she knows we’ll always be a metaphorical shoulder to cry on.
