Rihanna clapped back at fat-shamers with this genius meme
Rihanna will not stoop down to be the punchline of anyone’s joke but her own! Do you hear us?! Barstool Sports recently published an incredibly offensive “joke” piece about Rihanna’s weight. To their surprise, Rihanna responded to their fat-shaming with a meme that proves she is not one to be trifled with.
The header of the meme reads, "If you can't handle me at my 2007 Gucci Mane, you don’t deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane." Below the header are side-by-side photos of rapper Gucci Mane at different sizes (we all fluctuate, so we GET IT).
You go, Bad Gal!
The demeaning article about Rihanna’s weight gain has since been removed by Barstool Sports president, David Portnoy. The article’s writer, Chris Sprags, was also suspended. Portnoy posted an “apology” to the site, although it seems to be more of a plea for feminists to stop criticizing their sexist commentary.
He wrote,
"To be honest I don’t think the blog was as bad as many are making it out to be, but I’ll tell you this. It wasn’t that funny either and I could have told you with absolute certainty that feminists would hate it and use it as an example of "there goes Barstool being Barstool again."
Hmmm…how about just not body-shame women (or anyone)?
Women in media (and women in general) deal with so much pressure to look a certain way and to fit into unrealistic body standards, so we are THRILLED that Rihanna spoke up for herself. And let us reiterate that we love her no matter what the year or the look or the style. Because she’s gorgeous and talented ALWAYS.
Kudos to RiRi for handling the situation with humor and grace. Let it be known that you just don’t mess with the Bad Gal.
