When Ricky Martin’s kids found out he’s famous, they said the cutest little kid thing EVER
The only thing cuter than Ricky Martin and Ricky Martin’s kids is Ricky Martin’s twin sons’ reaction to their dad’s fame. It’s something that those of us whose parents are teachers or doctors or retail workers or whatever don’t really think about. We all imagine what it would be like to be famous — we just never think about what it would be like to grow up as the child of a celebrity. Especially at a young age, it must be super difficult to conceive of the fact that somebody who is so human and close to you is this icon to other people.
Ricky Martin told People that, although his kids had seen him perform peripherally, it was a while before they knew knew. “One day, when I thought that they were big enough, I said, ‘Go to the front of the house,’ and they see the lights and the whole spectacle, he said.
“When the show was over, they came to me and said, ‘Papi, you’re Ricky Martin.’ I said ‘I’m not Ricky Martin, I’m your father.’ They said, ‘No, no, no, you’re Ricky Martin,’ and so it changed.
Apparently, the awe of their father didn’t last forever — Ricky also explained that his kids are often his toughest critics.
"It’s as raw and honest as you can receive from an 8-year-old. They go, ‘Dad, that movement I don’t like. Dad, that song, you gotta change it,’ and they bring good points. I tell them, ‘Son, that’s something that I will consider.’
It’s kind of adorable that Ricky Martin asks for his kids’ feedback on his dance moves. We hope that they don’t stop being honest with him about his skills now that they know he’s not just Ricky Martin, but ~Ricky Martin.~
