What to watch on Netflix when another nor'easter snowstorm traps you inside
If your warm winter sweaters are tucked away now that spring’s technically here, consider whipping them out ASAP. Two nor’easter storms are gearing up to strike the East Coast this week, meaning two things: one, we’re officially on winter storm watch, and two, we’re hoping for a snow day.
Expected to hit on Wednesday, Winter Storm Toby will bring strong winds, wet snow, and flooding from the Ohio Valley through northern Virginia, Massachusetts, and major cities like Boston, Providence, New York City, and Washington, D.C., according to Time. And nor’easter Toby isn’t the only one we’re bracing for.
Winter Storm Genny is also reportedly expected to deliver 6 to 12 inches of snow in Connecticut, where the entire state will be under a winter storm warning from Wednesday through Thursday morning, according to WSFB.
So what are you supposed to do if you’re officially snowed in? Luckily, Netflix added a bunch of options for its March lineup that’ll keep you busy from the second you realize you’ll be glued to your couch for hours. Of course, there’s plenty to watch in the streaming service at all times, but below you’ll find the best of the best.
My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman
Everyone knows the name Malala Yousafzai, who is not just the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but also the latest interview subject for Letterman’s new series. He’s previously spoken to Barack Obama and George Clooney, and something tells us Malala will top them both.
Santa Clarita Diet
Drew Barrymore felt the need to lose 20 pounds for her role as zombie Sheila Hammond—so we’re definitely tuning in to learn why in the world she felt she wasn’t adequate enough already.
Need a new role model? This film follows a Brooklyn teen raised in foster care who’s looking to meet her father while taking on the sport of wrestling.
50 First Dates
If you haven’t seen this classic rom-com starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, where have you been? This one doesn’t drop until March 28, but hey—it’s better to mark your calendars now than to be sorry.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones
For a dose of female empowerment, catch up on Season 1 of this celebrated series—directed by a woman—and quickly press play on Season 2.
Who doesn’t love a little Sharon Stone? The now 60-year-old actress is on Netflix alongside Robert De Niro in their 1995 mob film Casino.
and Ghostbusters II
Did you love Melissa McCarthy and the all-female cast of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot? If so, Netflix is streaming the 1984 original starring Bill Murray.
Another classic is now available for your viewing pleasure. Spoiler alert: There’s a headline-making kiss between Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar that arguably defined a generation.
The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes
If, like me, you spend an embarrassing amount of time watching shows like House Hunters, then this probably sounds phenomenal.
Chef David Chang’s docu-series technically dropped in February, but this one deserves a special shout out. On a snow day, you’ll want to watch him explore the worlds of pizza, tacos, fried chicken, and more.
