We had been wondering how the Will & Grace revival might pick up and throw us back into the lives of Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen. Well, now we know, and the answer may surprise you.

Because we’ve learned that the Will & Grace revival will basically ignore the series finale.

ICYMI, 11 years ago when the show originally went off the air, the series wrapped the story up in a pretty sweet, little bow. We left these beloved characters in really specific places. Grace was married with a daughter, Laila. And Will was also married with a son, Ben. The finale hinted that Ben and Laila would meet and possibly become charming and hilarious roommates just like their parents.

But, according to Entertainment Weekly, the show creators decided to go in a completely different direction with the revival.

Which is to say, they’re simply pretending the events of the series finale never happened. And their reasoning totally makes sense, as executive producer and creator David Kohan explained to Entertainment Weekly:

(It should be noted that the Roseanne revival will do the same thing.)

We’re just so excited to see the whole cast back together, interacting in the way we know, love, and miss! Will & Grace returns to NBC on September 28th.
