If you think Dolores on "Westworld" looks like a Disney princess, that's because she's supposed to
There are so many amazing things about Westworld that talking about ONLY ONE of them feels criminal…and therefore totally appropriate since really ANYTHING GOES in this theme-park-gone-super-duper-wild. But, of course, at the center of all our interests is Westworld’s oldest (and probably most important) Host, Dolores. Played with beautiful subtlety by the brilliant Evan Rachel Wood, we are so entrenched in Dolores’ on-repeat world that we want to know as much as we can about her. We’ve always felt there was something SUPER familiar about Dolores and it turns out we really weren’t far off the mark! Because apparently she’s been modeled after something TOTALLY familiar…
According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy explained who the specific references are for Dolores’ ~look~.
The inspiration for Dolores’ look isn’t surprising, really. Given all the fixation with Alice in Wonderland in Episode 3, “The Stray,” this makes perfect sense. There’s clearly a very specific parallel being drawn between Dolores’ descent into the darkly mysterious underworld of Westworld and Alice’s descent into the equally dark and mysterious Wonderland.
We’re loving every moment of Westworld so far, and we can’t wait to see what happens to our frontier princess Dolores as she carries on her adventure in search of herself.
