Thank goodness! In case you were getting nervous about missing out on Saturday Night Live’s political satire this summer, we’ve got some great news. While the show usually takes a summer break, not this year. The show has  just announced that Weekend Update will air new segments in primetime this summer on NBC.

Since the election of Donald Trump and subsequent Alec Baldwin impressions of him (and plenty of other awesome impressions on the show), Saturday Night Live has been getting huge ratings. The Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, told Deadline Hollywood:

Yeah, Saturday Night Live has been hitting it out of the park lately with political sketches featuring amazing guests impersonating members of the administration. Like Melissa McCarthy as Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Back in 2008, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers hosted a similar program as the Presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain heated up, but that was during the fall. SNL has never aired new episodes over the summer. It makes complete sense to ramp up the political satire and commentary on weekly news stories when the show has been doing so well.

So when will this new special air?

We can’t wait to see what hilariousness ensues! Until then, make sure to watch Saturday Night Live every Saturday to see what impressions and guest stars make an appearance. Maybe we’ll even get more Melissa McCarthy soon!
