One of the things that made the original Heathers film so iconic was the witty dialogue, and well, the murder. It was bloody, dark, fun and not like anything that came before or since.

The new Heathers TV series dropped its teaser trailer on Instagram last night during the MTV VMAs, and we’re dying to see more!

The press release from Paramount Network (previously Spike TV) describes the show as such:

“Based on the 1988 cult classic film, Heathers is a pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day as heroine Veronica Sawyer and boyfriend J.D. deal with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers — Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara.”

The anthology thing is fascinating. According to The Hollywood Reporter, each season of the show will feature a new group of Heathers who terrorize the school and each season will last 10 episodes. This new updated take also centers on a school where the outcasts have taken over as the school bullies, which is slightly different than the original film.

These are the new Heathers at Westerburgh High School.

Heather Chandler is “woke af.”

Heather McNamara is “scandalous.”

And Heather Duke is “savage.”

And here’s the new Winona Ryder, aka Veronica Sawyer.

While we loved the tongue-in-cheek vibes of the original film, based on the trailer alone, we’re feeling like the new show will be even darker. Also, we love that the trailer ends with the most memorable line of dialogue from the film, “fuck me gently with a chainsaw.”

The show premieres in 2018 on Paramount Network.
