The host for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards has just been revealed
Anything goes at the MTV Video Music Awards — known best as the VMAs. The show has been on air since 1984, and has created more than a few memorable moments. This year sounds like it’ll be equally fun, since Katy Perry announced she’ll be hosting the VMAs through a post on Twitter.
Not only will she be up on stage throughout the night, but she’s also nominated for five awards, including Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Pop, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects. She ties with The Weeknd for having the second largest amount of nominations this year. In first place? Rapper Kendrick Lamar, thanks to his music video for “Humble.”
Perry announced the gig with a fun video promo.
In other great news, the categories this year will be more on the non-gendered side, similarly to how the show operated their Movie & TV Awards this year. Instead of awarding for best female video and best male video, the network decided to combine the two into “Artist Of The Year.”
This year, the nominees for the revamped award include Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd. Any one of those six musicians would make a fine choice.
We have no doubt that Perry is going to do an incredible job. After all, she hosted Saturday Night Live back in 2011, and helped create quite a memorable episode. Once you’ve mastered live television, you can pretty much do anything.
The 2017 VMAs will be airing on MTV on Sunday, August 27th. We’ll be counting down the days until then.
