The most heartbreaking moment of "The Handmaid's Tale" season finale took place in Canada
Sadly, Season 1 of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale is over. While most of the show took place in Gilead, we did get a peek into the world outside — like through the time June/Offred’s husband Luke spent in Canada.
And in the Season 1 finale, we got a beautiful reunion in that outside world that we so desperately needed.
Offred’s friend and fellow handmaid Moira (played by Samira Wiley) had a tough time in Season 1. While she escaped being a handmaid, she was later forced to work at Jezebel’s — a brothel for the rich and powerful who think they’re above the rules of Gilead. Luckily, she ran into Offred there just when she needed a reminder to keep fighting. So she managed to escape yet again and make her way north to Canada.
In the Season 1 finale, after finding a safe harbor that not only provided her with safety but also resources (like money and health care), Moira was asked who she wanted to list as family in case they also managed to find refuge. Sadly, Moira didn’t have anyone to list. But, as she made her way out of the building to start a new life, she saw Luke in what is basically the happiest moment of The Handmaid’s Tale yet.
It turns out Luke listed *her* as family and got the call that she was safe.
See, Moira? You have a family, even if not by blood. We can’t wait to see what this family is able to accomplish in Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale streaming on Hulu in 2018.
