Calling all Stranger Things fans! We have good news and, sadly, bad news for you, which arrives via Vulture.
Let’s start with the good news: Stranger Things has been renewed for a third season! Better yet, there will probably be a fourth season!
But, and this is where the bad news comes in, that fourth season will probably be the show’s last.
It’s important to note, though, that Ross says they think Season 4 will be the end of Stranger Things. He hasn’t formally confirmed that Season 4 will be it. So, you bet your bottom Eggo that we’re holding out hope for more.
Ross’ brother and fellow creator Matt added that the story will, of course, continue to evolve in those future seasons. “We just have to keep adjusting the story,” Matt said. “Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”
For the sake of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and company, we certainly hope they catch some sort of break! Ross echoed that sentiment: “They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town!” he quipped. “It’s ridiculous!”
We’re so sad to hear that Stranger Things will probably end in only a few more seasons.
But, on the upside (down), the creators/brothers are thinking about a sci-fi blockbuster they might want to make way down the line. So, at least there’s hope for more sci-fi wonderfulness from the dynamic duo once Stranger Things eventually comes to an end.
But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. We have Season 2 coming up shortly! And with that sophomore season, Ross promises bigger stakes. “We wanted to push things a bit,” Ross explained. “I told Matt, ‘I don’t want to call it Season 2, I just want it to feel like a movie sequel.’ If you have a successful movie, No. 2 is always a little bit bigger.”
Stranger Things Season 2 will land on Netflix on Friday, October 27th.
