While the central storyline of Stranger Things Season 2 very much revolves around a group of tween boys trying to conquer evil — literally, because there’s a monster running about — more often than not, it’s the ladies of Hawkins, Indiana who steal the spotlight. We’ve got badass Eleven who does not have time for your nonsense. Season 2 introduces us to cool girl Max, who is just as tough, if not more so, than Dustin and Lucas. And we have Nancy Wheeler, who is maybe the most badass of them all thanks to her cunning smarts and ability to stare down danger at every turn.
Once again, Natalia Dyer does an incredible job of portraying Nancy — a girl juggling school, a strained relationship, and a murder investigation (that would be Barb’s murder investigation). Over the course of all nine episodes of Season 2, there’s one Nancy moment that clearly stands out above the rest:
When it appears the demo-dogs are going to kill them all, Hopper asks Jonathan if he can handle a rifle. He pauses for a second, clearly unsure how to answer.
That’s when Nancy steps forward in the most, “I got this” moment of Stranger Things.
If watching this scene felt empowering AF for you at home on your couch, know that filming it was also empowering AF for Dyer.
We’re never going to overlook, or doubt, Nancy. Ever.
