There’s always an undeniable bit of sadness that lingers when one of our favorite TV shows end. We spend our time getting attached to actors and characters and suddenly, they’re gone. But luckily for Pretty Little Liars fans, their beloved Emily Fields, aka Shay Mitchell, is set to return in her own show, The Heiresses, on Freeform. Mitchell will be teaming up with PLL show runner I. Marlene King to give life to the new series — a family soap with a mystery twist — and we’re sure to be addicted to it in no time.
Based on PLL author Sara Shepard’s 2014 novel, the project is set in the diamond world, where the Saybrooks are a household name. As The Hollywood Reporter describes, “The family has been blessed with great fortune, but cursed with epic loss. The events surrounding a deadly accident a year ago drove a wedge between the once-inseparable diamond empire heiresses. But when an unspeakable tragedy brings the cousins back together, they create a truly unbreakable bond. They set [out] to solve the mystery of who wants the Saybrook family dead before one of them is the next target.”
We’re not entirely sure what Mitchell’s role will be yet, we’re assuming she’ll be one of the cousins? We just don’t know, but we might not have to wait too long to find out, as the show has already landed a put-pilot agreement. This means The Heiresses has a pretty great chance of being green-lit to become a full series.
This isn’t the only upcoming show featuring PLL alums. Earlier this week, King also scored a pilot order for a Pretty Little Liars spinoff — The Perfectionists — starring former Liars favorites Sasha Pieterse (Alison) and Janel Parrish (Mona).
Needless to say, it’s been a great week for PLL fans.
For Mitchell, The Heiresses becomes her second post-PLL starring role. She is also attached to a Greg Berlanti Lifetime series drama, You, opposite Penn Badgley — aka Gossip Girl.
We’re definitely looking forward to seeing Shay Mitchell and all the other Liars in their new roles.
