Well, gone are the days of us all secretly wondering whether or not Bert and Ernie were the first gay couple on children’s television. Nickelodeon’s animated series Loud House has announced their pioneering decision to feature a same-sex married couple on the show— a first for the network. And we are pumped.

Loud House is currently in its first season, and follows Lincoln Loud, a young boy who struggles being the only male in a family where he is outnumbered by ten sisters. (Eeesh!) One of his friends is Clyde McBride, and, according to Entertainment Weekly, Clyde McBride’s parents Harold and Howard are “a gay, interracial married couple in the series.”

Below is a clip from the episode that introduces Harold and Howard. false

So far the reaction to the same-sex couple has been positive, with Twitter users praising the decision. false false false

We hope the reaction continues to be positive, and we applaud Loud House and Nickelodeon’s embrace of the modern family. We cannot wait to watch more of the show!
