Just a few months ago, we lauded the witty manner in which Nathan Fillion addressed the Castle cancellation, and now the actor will get to flex more of his comedic chops— on TV. According to Vulture, Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan confirmed that Fillion will appear in at least three episodes of the sitcom’s upcoming season as the appropriately named weatherman Rainer Shine.

Call us corny, but we’re totally LOLing at that one. Even though we don’t know much about Fillion’s character yet, we have a feeling Phil Dunphy would totally approve.

Besides, we can’t think of a better way to improve upon the Emmy winning-sitcom’s quirky humor than with an off-kilter weatherman. Seriously guys, we need more Fillion on our weekly TV lineup, and this character sounds perfect. With a name like Rainer Shine, we’re assuming he won’t exactly be the show’s most grounded character.

This role is a bit of a departure from a crime-solving mystery novelist, but Fillion’s already way ahead of any angsty fans who may be worried about this transition:

Duly noted, Nathan. We can’t wait to see you back on TV.
