"Mystery Science Theater 3000" reboot has a cast and a release date, so our childhoods are not dead yet
Netflix always seems to have our nostalgic best-interests in mind. On Friday, April 14, they release the revival of THE BEST SHOW OF THE ’90s: Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Because we’ve been obsessed with news of the MST3K remake since we first heard learned about the Kickstarter campaign in 2015, we know that production wrapped on the new season in October. The crowdfunded project gave die-hards the opportunity to see the premiere episode at some exclusive “Red Carpet Kickstarter Screening” events.
In a new cast pic of the reboot, it appears that Jonah Ray dons his Gizmonics jumpsuit, Felicia Day steps into the role of Kinga Forrester, and — gasp! — Patton Oswalt takes on Son of TV’s Frank. Thank you, Gods.
Behold, Mystery Science Theater 3000.
In the 18 years since the series left the air, we’ve been lost in a not-too-distant future.
The project raised $6.3 million in pledges and other donations.
Of course, you can never know that a reboot of your favorite show is going to work. But we’re hopeful this one will, and well. With a list of guest stars like Mark Hamill, Jack Black, Joel McHale, and Jerry Seinfeld, the comedy will be good, anyway. The show’s new host, Jonah Ray, is solid, and Elliott Kalan, the show’s head writer, is known for his writing on The Daily Show (Jon Stewart edition).
One concern could be that the reboot would over-modernize the show.
If it’s bad, is that cat going to have to take the rap for this whole thing? (C’mon, we had to get in a MST3K quote. Carry on.)
